CXC ELITE TEAM

Elite Team

The CXC Elite Team was developed and implemented in May 2006 to support athletes with elite aspirations. The concept for a regional elite development program was put forth as an area of opportunity during a Central Regional Coaches symposium in the spring of 2005. There were numerous high school and college teams, but there were only a handful of post-collegiate programs for aspiring Olympic athletes.

The CXC Team’s goal is to provide coaching, training and modest financial support to a select few individuals that possess the skill, drive and dedication to pursue a goal to represent the US in upcoming World Cup, World Championship and Olympic competitions. A simultaneous goal is to develop athletes which are ambassadors that spread awareness, knowledge and enthusiasm to promote a healthy lifestyle and increase cross country ski participation. Our success requires your support.

CXC Elite Team Program is developed in a camp training structure consistent with many national ski teams as well as professional cycling teams. We have one camp per month lasting for approximately 2 weeks in the months between May and November. The intent is to provide focused training and support within camp and then provide the athletes the opportunity to go home and work on personal training components pointed out during the previous camp. This format provides a good blend of focused attention revolved around organized training with other strong athletes and get coaching support followed by the opportunity to “go home” and train independently. We spend more time together to and through the race season during the months of mid November to early April.

PROGRAM PHYLOSOPHY
The CXC Elite Team is founded on a comprehensive commitment to achieve national and international excellence.

The program is structured to identify and support elite athletes – i.e. the few who display the ability and determination to excel. The CXC Elite Team expects that the selected few will make a strong commitment to the program.

CXC ELITE TEAM MISSION
The mission is to close the gap between junior and senior athlete’s development by providing professional world class coaching and training venues. We believe we can be key players in the US National Ski Team drive to achieve Olympic podiums by 2014 and Olympic Gold by 2018 in Cross Country Skiing.

CXC Elite Team athletes are ambassadors of cross country skiing and are involved in the local ski communities by assisting twice a month with the local junior and adult programs through spring, summer, and fall.

CXC ELITE TEAM GOAL
The goal of CXC Elite Team is to make the vision of international competition a reality by selecting, training and supporting a team of world-class athletes and by involving those athletes in the regional ski communities. The team delivers role models, ski specific education and motivational support for young athletes throughout the Midwest.
